TO HOST

1ST YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES 2010





The result was unveiled by IOC President Jacques Rogge at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.

“The International Olympic Committee
has the honour of announcing that the first
Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010
are awarded to the city of Singapore,” read
Mr Rogge.


Singapore will host the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010. Singapore beat moscow in the final by 53 votes to 44.



Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who was at the Padang, addressed the huge crowd of supporters: “It is a great honour and privilege for all of us.”


Underlining the fact that the Olympic flame will be in South-east Asia and in Singapore for the first time, he said: “We will be the focus of a new era of sports development for South-east Asia and Singapore, and the Olympic movement, of course."


“We worked very hard, it was a national effort, but more than that it was a people effort.
Singaporeans from all walks of life came together to support this bid.”
